Here are the things applicants need to bring with them for Live Scan Fingerprinting:

• A government-issued photo ID. The ID must be valid and unexpired to be the primary valid identification. Acceptable IDs include a driver’s license, state ID, passport, military ID, and green card.
• The requesting agency provided the correct Live Scan form. Typically, the requester will provide the applicant with a “request for Live Scan service form.” Applicants must fill out the form and provide personal information such as address, eye color, and date of birth. The form also requires the requesting agency’s Originating Agency Identifier (ORI) and mail code. Be sure to ask the requester for this information, as it is essential to facilitate the Live Scan request and transmit results to the requesting agency.
• Payment. The fingerprint processing fee and an additional rolling fee apply. The rolling fee may vary from one location to another, so applicants are advised to call the Live Scan site to verify the amount and payment methods.
• A copy .of the Request For Live Scan Service form. Applicants can mail this copy to someone other than the Secretary of State, as the DOJ will transmit the information electronically. Giants who fail the notary public will only take their fingerprints until they pass the exam. The fingerprints must be brought within one year of the exam date.

The Live Scan Program takes and transmits fingerprints to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The DOJ is responsible for conducting a background check on the applicant, and a notary public commission will not be issued until a report from the DOJ and the FBI is received stating that there is no criminal history.
